2. I'm blogging from my new iMac! I made the switch after a tortuous few months with my PC. It had been extremely sluggish and one day, just completely froze up. System diagnostics indicated my hard drive was on the verge of complete collapse. I looked at switching to Mac, but the price tag and headache of learning a whole new system kept me from making the leap. I ordered a replacement Dell machine and was content to remain in Camp PC. Then, the new machine arrived. Took it out of the box, plugged it all, turned it on and was greeted by 4 annoying beeps, cycling continuously, and nothing else. After an hour + phone call to tech support, I apparently needed entirely new RAM. On a brand new machine?!?!? I took that as my sign and went to the Apple store the very next day.
I'm a little over a week into the new iMac and I'm starting to feel more comfortable. Not only did I have to switch over all my files, I also needed new software. And I had to reinstall fonts I use regularly. And photoshop actions, and figure out where everything is and how to best get organized. I have a one-on-one appointment at Apple on Thursday, so hopefully I'll be up and running full speed after that.
3. For the last week, we've had some variety of party-loving, up-all-night bird perched outside our bedroom window. This guy has been singing every night, all night. A quick google search at 1:00 a.m. last night (cause he was keeping me up!) points to him being a Northern Mockingbird. If you're interested what that sounds like, here you go.
4. Benjamin went to the birthday part of one of his preschool classmates yesterday. Just so happens that the birthday boy's dad is the lead singer of the Punk/Heavy Metal Band Biohazard. Only in Los Angeles. . .
5. I'm friends with another mom of 2 boys (that my boys have play dates with) whose husband is a musician and producer who has written songs for Hannah Montana, One Republic, Ke$ha, Keith Urban and more. Another Los Angeles phenomenon. . .
6. Rich and I have the opportunity for a little weekend getaway this fall (thanks to my fabulous in-laws!) and we'd like to head up to wine country. Every time I start exploring hotel options and potential itineraries, I'm like a deer in headlights! I even found the Napa vs. Sonoma Faceoff in Sunset Magazine, but it didn't make things any clearer for me, just added a whole heap of places I want to visit! Anyone been to either (or both) and can give me a solid recommendation? We've got 2 nights in late October. . . go!
7. Are you on instagram? My feed is here: http://instagram.com/amyshertzer and I almost feel like it's taken the place of blogging for me. I'm not completely abandoning the blog, but it's just so much more convenient to snap some pics with my iPhone and upload them immediately to share. There's now a video feature so you can share still or moving pictures. I've seen several from people I follow and I'm somewhat intrigued, but also overwhelmed. I don't need anything else to add to my list of things I want to get good at!
8. We've had a busy summer so far and have been loving every minute of it! Tomorrow we're heading to a cemetery. No, really. Apparently there's a cool museum at the Forest Lawn Cemetery and they are featuring an exhibit by an amazing artist who creates his sculptures out of Legos!
9. My son has become Ralphie. He just got a haircut and found these fake dress-up glasses and he's been wearing them nonstop for the last 24 hours. It's almost too much for me handle. . .
