Christmas Day

Christmas. . . the most magical day of the year!  This year my parents were able to be here and join in the magic, which we were all thankful for.

We open stockings first, which are typically filled with practical (toothbrush, toothpaste, underwear, etc), fun (eyeglass drinking straws, etc), and traditional (pickles).

I've never seen a kid so excited about toothpaste!

When they go to the presents, it was even more excitement!  They were thrilled with their Star Wars blasters from Grandma and Poppop and immediately ran to get their already-owned Star Wars gear from the closet. . .

Daddy was a happy man. . . flannel, beer, and a new razor!

A little family picture. . .

We took a break for our traditional Orange Marmalade French Toast, with a side of brown-sugar coffee bacon, honeydew, and blood oranges.  Yum!

Then we got to the business of playing with all these wonderful new toys!  Santa brought Benjamin a play campfire log, which was just about perfect because 2 days prior, he requested we set up his tent so he could go "camping" in his room.

We also played a fun game of Tip It!

Then, we headed to the park so the boys could test out their awesome new scooters from Grandma and Poppop!

There was time for some monkeying around, too!

And testing out the new spy gear. . .

We headed home for Christmas dinner (beef tenderloin, brussels sprouts, and roasted red potatoes) then had stories before heading to bed!

All in all, a wonderful, magical, exciting day!

Candy Cane Lane

El Segundo has one of the coolest Christmas traditions I think I've ever encountered!  Every year since 1949 for 3 weeks in December, every single house on a cul-de-sac decorate their homes with outrageous and lovely light displays.  The street is barricaded so only pedestrian traffic is permitted.  It's called Candy Cane Lane, and it's amazing.

The boys were in heaven when they saw several homes that had electric train displays in the front yard!

And I loved seeing how each house adopted a theme and took it the max!

Some beautiful, some tacky, but all-in-all a delightful mix that really puts you in the holiday spirit!

It started to drizzle a bit before we made our way home, but that didn't spoil the fun in the least.  I love that we live in a town that has kept this amazing tradition alive for over 60 years!
